Crank Up the Love this Valentine’s Day

Category: Mums Corner

With a full-time job, a home to tend, meals to prepare and children to mind, keeping the love alive becomes a very low priority. We offer you, modern mums, nine ways you can keep the flames burning.

You throw yourself out of bed before 6 a.m., make breakfast for the family, send the kids to school, go to work, buy groceries after work, make dinner, do the household chores, check your e-mail one more time, and then get ready for bed. Your feet ache and it’s already midnight - who has time for love?

We feel for you. That’s why we’re giving you nine ways you can work a little romance into your routine. They range from requiring some effort to none at all, so you can pick and choose what suits your energy level and mood.

The Staycation

We’ll get the obvious out of the way: a weekend staycation, while difficult to arrange (the babysitter!) and expensive (the hotel!), can work wonders for any relationship. Turn off your mobile phones (if only for a few hours) and enjoy a couple’s massage before some much-needed one-on-one time. The break from the bawling baby and the pile of laundry allows you and your partner a chance for your minds to calm down and bodies to relax. Who can resist daily turndown service?

The Quickie

Maybe being away from home for an entire weekend isn’t feasible – there is simply too much to do at home or you can’t find a long-term babysitter. So instead of heading home after work on a Friday evening, meet your hubby in a hotel room for a quick romantic rendezvous. You can call the hotel ahead of time to request the honeymoon set-up: rose petals, candles, and champagne - the works. Some hotels provide these little peripherals at little to no extra charge. The money you save from a single night out can be put toward a future rendezvous…

The Walk in the Park

A stroll after dinner is good for your health anyway. Push your baby in a stroller or have your toddler ride his tricycle –without a child occupying your arms, you can hold hands, cuddle, and look into each other’s eyes. While not necessarily the prelude to sizzling sex, it is nevertheless an important time to focus on each other and bond.

The Dine-In Order

And we don’t mean McDonald’s or Pizza Hut. Some caterers can deliver platters of yummy canapés and sumptuous gourmet feasts to your home so you can dine in style – think cheeses, antipasti and mouth-watering desserts. All you have to do is light the candles! Fine dining with your tiny tot might not be your idea of romance, but at least you’re not slaving over the stove for hours.

The Small Surprises

They say the best things in life are free. This can be so – if you’re creative and a little bit daring. When you’re both getting dressed in the morning, don’t wear a panty – and make sure he sees it. (You can stash one in your

purse to put on later – he doesn’t have to know!) You can bet that his mind will be on you all day long!

While you’re at it, stash a short love letter in his pocket. When he finds it later, he’ll enjoy the romantic (or raunchy!) gesture.

The Phone-In

You may have to duck out of your office for this one unless you want to elicit stares from your colleagues: Call him at work to remind him of that sexy thing he did in bed that one time that really blew your mind. Don’t leave out the sordid details – he’ll appreciate the reminder. You can tell him via SMS, too. That way, he’ll be able to go back and read it over and over and over…

Dressing Up to Dress Down

Wear a push-up bra (feel free to squeeze in a few chicken filets or hide them in your purse for later) and a button-down shirt to work. When you reach your front door in the evening, all you have to do is undo the top few buttons – just enough to reveal a hint of cleavage. You don’t have to worry about corrupting the kids; the only one tall enough to see is the one you’re trying to get hot and bothered!

Be the Best Bed Buddy

When you’re exhausted after a long day and looking weary, you may not be in the mood for romance. That doesn’t mean you can’t tease him anyway! When he’s not looking, dash under the covers in your sexiest nightie or teddy – or nothing at all! He’ll be in for a sexy surprise when he finally comes to bed! You can bet he’ll be the one waiting for you the following night…

Tantalising Touches

Some people get a thrill from doing naughty things when they think no one is looking. When you’re doing something perfectly ordinary – brushing your teeth side-by-side or simply walking past him – lightly touch him on a sensitive spot, like his butt, inner thigh, or his manhood. That second of contact is all you need to rev his engine. Playing footsie has never been so fun!
